Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
At Gracie Barra Swindon we are part of the Gracie Barra family, and follow the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) instructions of the head of Gracie Barra, Master Carlos Gracie Jnr, son of Master Carlos Gracie, the first person in the now famous Gracie family to study the art of Jiu-Jitsu. This means you can be sure that you will be learning authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from Patrick Reeves, a fully qualified Gracie Barra Purple Belt.
Gracie Barra BJJ is for anyone who wants to learn how to defend him or herself in combat, or learn an exciting and competitive sport with local, national and international competitions available. What most people don’t know is that GB BJJ will also allow you to apply those same principles to fighting the daily battles of life, like weight loss, stress, relationship issues, and self-confidence. You will learn how to think through problems more constructively than before, on and off the mats.
At GB Swindon, you are a part of an extended family. You will join a team that will support you in your quest for self-improvement. Training the techniques and participating in live training sessions, with your partners and coaches, will give you an arsenal of weapons at your disposal whenever you should need them. The more you train, the more you will arm yourself with knowledge and skills to help fight all your battles in life.
BJJ is for everyone – we have both men and women in our classes and we also have a thriving kids class. We believe that if everyone trained Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu then the world would be a better place. To see the full range of classes we offer please check out our schedule.
How do I start?
If you’d like to start BJJ then check out our Fundamentals classes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 7-8pm. We follow the new Fundamentals 2.0 program approved by Gracie Barra to ensure you are learning the very best quality of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
How many classes a week?
You have the flexibility to decide which of our packages you would like to be on. If you catch the BJJ bug then you’ll quickly find it’s addictive and you’ll naturally want to train more often. Private lessons provide the quickest way to progress. For more details about training packages and private lessons speak to Pat.
To help you train more often, taking a Fundamentals class back-to-back with an advanced class in the same evening will only count as using one of your allocated classes.
Bring: Gumshield (optional)
Wear: You will need a Gracie Barra Gi for our regular BJJ classes. These can be purchased through the club. If you don’t have a Gi yet then you can wear shorts/track suit bottoms and t-shirt/rash guard until you can get one. For No Gi classes please wear shorts and rash guard.
